Counting Kitties, I can’t believe I’m admitting this !

I walk everywhere; we do not own a car. Sometimes, walking up and down the same streets every day, especially if going TO work, things can get a little boring. Adam is always working in different parts of the city; we loved it when his work site was located on the same route that I would walk so we could walk together.

Honestly, I do not remember exactly how it started but we started counting the kitties on the walk. It is as nuts as it sounds. It has spread into every walk we take, but it is also, as fun as fun can be ! When we count them it is in ‘The Count’ style, 1…..1 kitty, 2….2 kitties etc. I don’t know how people find it hard to find buildings in this city that allow kitties, there are kitties EVERYWHERE !

Some mornings we would count upwards of 8…..8 kitties ! Within only a seven block vertical radius before hitting main streets. The kitties love lying in windows. Gus loves lying and looking out the window. She has only been counted once. In the spring and summer I know of a few buildings on my street where kitties just hang around in groups of two or three, prime for counting. The best is when new kitties are discovered on the route. The route does have some branch offs that we take and all of those also offer great kitty counting opportunities.

However disturbing this may sound it gets worse ! When Adam and I do not get to walk together in the morning we make a really good effort to text message the amount of kitties we see to each other.

We have also named some of the kitties, there are 3….3 kitties that we see on the last block, these are the kitties who had the biggest paws in getting the game started. Their names for counting purposes are, Big Red (the master pimp cat), Earless and Pink Eye (who Adam likes to call Puss Brains against all of my protests)

I think if Gus knew how much I look forward to seeing Big Red on my walks she would be a little bit jealous but Gus is the kitty I come home to every day, these kitties just make my walks more enjoyable. I don’t see it any differently than petting pretty puppies. Who doesn’t pet pretty puppies? No matter how cute your puppy is !
