Mircoserfs and Jeopardy
I thought I had read Microserfs by Douglas Coupland because I started reading his books in 1997 and used to read my old roommates copies before I became so anal I will only read books I own and so I have a lot of books. My mom gave me a gift card for books [drool] for Christmas and so I bought it because I need it for my collection of Coupland novels and DID NOT order his newest one which obviously I need to own and read [jPod] because I needed to make sure I had read Microserfs first.
Turns out I have not read it because Id remember this. The main character has a thing for Jeopardy and he in part describes his characters by placing them all into their own top seven Jeopardy categories.
The other night the final Jeopardy question was something about a country bordering China and Russia and I guessed Kazakhstan as Adam went running for the globe and I yelled out NO CHEATING and I WAS RIGHT AND ADAM DIDN’T GET IT. I jumped up and clapped, performed a wee jig and I got a high five too. It isn’t that I don’t EVER get final Jeopardy it is that Adam could win Jeopardy win a few shows in a row kinda deal so it was that he didn’t know it at all- it isn’t often that if one of us doesn’t know the answer that it is him and it just slipped off my tongue like I’d been there.
MY top seven Jeopardy categories would be:
John Denver
Cleaning products
Serial Killers
House Cats
Athletes
1985 Honda Civics
Spelling how it sounds
Ps. the book is about nerds and Microsoft back in the day.
Pps. it is rather good.
Ppps. if you like nerds.
