All about the Natural

Somewhere back in 2005 Adam asked me what my natural hair colour was.

Blonde. I was pretty sure he’d seen some of my baby photos and photos taken throughout my twenties, we’d been together no less than two years when he asked and if memory serves it was on our September 30th 2005 anniversary that we got engaged. I know it is terrible I don’t remember the exact date but I remember how he proposed so I think that’s good enough.

Anyway point being he was bothered. He did not like my hair. The colour was choppy, bad highlights or lowlights or whatever and although I was a natural blonde you really couldn’t tell. He asked me nicely if I would be willing to grow it out. My hair was half way down my back at this point and I somehow I had myself convinced I could do it in under a year and that I’d have it all ready for the wedding.

Now I don’t want a post about my silly hair to be long but there is a reason I’m mentioning it.

I cut it as short as I could handle it, had it coloured to match my roots and waited. I found out real quick that having it coloured to match my roots was a waste of time and money so I only tried to match it once. My hair grows incredibly fast but not fast enough when you are getting married. There has been ZERO colour put in it in any way shape or form since that realization.

When we got married on August 26th 2006 it looked like this,

One Month Today!

It is now 2008 and I am STILL growing in my natural colour, so much for it taking a year, my stylist ventures a guess it’ll take one more cut. But for the last year every time I get my hair cut I don’t just get lovely people telling me it looks wonderful they always add in ‘you changed your hair colour again’. And then I say you wanna know a secret? It’s my natural colour. I love it and not just because it gets a lot of compliments.

So for the record this is my natural hair colour in all of its glory. It is dirty blonde, red, and brown with some black as night strands thrown in for good measure. It makes sense to me actually to stick to my natural hair colour seeing as other than mascara you’ll *almost* never see me with makeup on.

You’re lucky you have such a nice natural hair colour. Me, I’m over 50% grey, hence the dye job.

i can just see adam when he reads that comment he will be so jealous i swear he’d colour his hair grey if was willing to spend any money on his hair at all.

Mine is finally all natural since… grade 7? HA!

I don’t even know how to describe it. Is dirty red a colour? Sometimes I miss having it orangy but I don’t miss the money or time spent on it. And my hair dresser is always so disappointed when she asks when she’ll get to colour it again and I say never!

I only got her to do it a couple times and the last time was for my wedding to match my extensions. Other than that I always did it myself.

I think I’m the only one who likes it.

NO WAY i don’t believe you i love your hair!! your stylist always does a great job. it always looks good. i never even considered growing mine out until he suggested it and im really glad i did.

Hey, I’m pretty sure my natural colour is green cos I never remember my hair being a brownesque dirty blonde @ the back and bright yellow / white blonde on top…..

….. Berts natural colour is Brown bits with Black bits with a White belly and White socks.

  6. gusgreeper Says:

you should grow your natural colour in :P i like your hair black and/or dark blonde with brown thrown in, not the orangey blonde the blonde blonde.

Gus is grey, i say she is a russian blue because i think she actually might be, not sure. someone asked from my tattoo if she was a russian blue and of course i said yes :P
she seems to have some white pieces growing in probably cause she is 98 years old and she has a little brown patch on her chest that you can only catch in the right lighting. Gus does not wear socks.

I love natural hair. I have not been to a hair dresser in god only knows how long for a cut OR dye. Occassionally I self add a little red to it, once I tried to go blonde but that didn’t work very well. It is a good thing my hair is super curly or I am sure you could tell it is cut at home regularly, 2 snips only.

  8. gusgreeper Says:

WHAT? i don’t remember you ever trying to go blonde?? you’ve always had gorgeous natural hair since we were kids not saying it sucks now or nothing ;)

  9. Raul Says:

One time, I think it was in 2002, I just wanted to try having blonde hair. I did it (bleached blonde) and it looked … well, interesting :) You can see my natural hair color on my Flickr. I just hope I can get good highlights :) Although the problem is that people seem to like my hair color as it is… :)

I tried to go blonde in Rogers Pass, thought it would help with some self esteem, it didn’t

i no longer put any color into my hair. i had of photos taken of me recently and i said: “oh is that my hair color?” wow. it’s far more red that i realised now, and i’m pretty sure it wasn’t before but…maybe it was! i think i may see the first signs of some grey too, but i’m not too phased about it. i think it’s easier on blonde hair. i just rinse it in chamomile flowers now. i think you look very pretty with the bangs in the second pic and with it up like that :)

    Beautiful!

  14. Roxanne Says:

My hair hasn’t been it’s natural color since 1981 and that’s the way I like it! It’s the color of mice. Field mice. Yuck. Now it’s Natural Match 5C.

  15. trista Says:

that is a super nice natural hair colour! I like the redness in it. mine is such a boring blah brown, it hasn’t been brown in YEARS.

  16. Sam Says:

I haven’t dyed my hair since August? June? something last summer? I need to do an HNT with my roots of crazy premature gray. I’m enjoying it in a perverse way. Oh! There is a girl in my class that reminds me of you for some reason. I think I need to take a picture and send it to you.

Also, while I am writing this novel…I love the picture you just posted from your wedding. I can’t believe how long it has been, it seemed like YESTERDAY that you two got married. And you both look lovely.

Dude says “meow” to Gus btw.

  17. LBB Says:

I just flipped through your wedding photos. You looked wonderful!

  18. Mo Says:

    Lovin’ the hair!

  19. thefunkybee Says:

I love your hair, any color. A wise man once said to me, if you have a beautiful face it doesn’t matter what your hair looks like. I think he was just trying to get in my pants on a bad hair day. But honestly, you’re beautiful Corinna and your hair just compliments that. Me on the other hand…I’ll probably color/highlight my hair until the day I die. That’s just how I roll…

  20. sarah Says:

i’m a weak woman.. my hair was a-la-natural for a while, but then i got board.. bleached it blond.. then dyed it red.. then cut it all of (about 4 inches) which kinda looked cool with the faded out red/blond.. then i dyed it burgundy. it looks purple/red.

i get sooo freakin’ bored with my hair.

but YOUR hair is lovely - you pull the natural color off very well.

  21. sarah Says:

    *bored* sheesh.. i need sleep.

  22. Nocturnal Says:

Your natural hair colour rocks, definitely stick with that Corrina. BTW, that pic of you and Adam rocks.

  23. ray Says:

you look absolutely beautiful. I think dirty red is a good descrip but then I’m red green colorblind so i can’t be trusted.

i’m feeling pretty good today, I had a good night last night. my job is just like that where I can have off nights

once you hit rock bottom there is nowhere to go but up

hope you are feeling better too

  24. Lyvvie Says:

Usually when a guy asks what a woman’s natural hair colour is, he’s looking for an invite into her pants for proof.

My natural colour gets more silver every day. It’s quite scary. My sister went completely white by 28.

    I like your bangs.

  25. Green Llama97 Says:

My hair has been one of my favorite things about myself. Now that I’m in my 40’s - not so much. You have a lovely rug. Enjoy it!

  26. Freakazojd Says:

I love that pic of you and Adam, it’s lovely! I had gerberas when I got married too, such a beautiful, happy flower. Your hair is great natural, definitely a good choice to not colour it…mine’s natural right now but it looks like ASS. Trying to figure out if that’s just because I haven’t had it cut since god-knows-when or because the colour is also so blah…I’ll probably get the cut first and see if that helps. :)
