Archive for the ‘Playstation’ Category

Hello

Friday, November 9th, 2007

I am finally doing what I was supposed to do when I moved to Word Press which was fix my archives and match them to their original categories but I am lazy and things can sometimes take me a while and I get so wrapped up in it I haven’t had time to post and it is a huge yet very addictive job. I have amended it to just fixing the categories because I have added so many new ones and leaving most of the HTML until later, it is simply too much work to fix all of the dead links but important posts I am writing down to re-link later.

I am so close to finishing Guitar Hero III on Hard I can taste it, but it is still going to take me a wee bit of time, I’ve been going back and five staring the Hard level songs because finishing the songs in the final level and knowing that I gotta battle that devil dude without one or both of my arms falling off is crazy talk at this moment. I have one song in the final level in the box.

PS. I have picked my Top Model winner for this cycle but I won’t say it out loud yet, I won’t even tell Adam. If you want to read sweet reviews head over to Jennifer’s site she is a fashionista, there isn’t one up for this week’s show but the ones from past weeks are great.

Friday updates

Friday, November 2nd, 2007
  • I have to have all the songs on Guitar Hero III open by tomorrow. People are coming over to play and I want all the songs open. I started on hard level because I play on expert now but I got stuck in level seven [hard] so I have had to go back to medium level so I can get everything open. The things I do for my friends, seriously.

Top five total BS reasons I didn’t insist on the cordless guitar being mine and have not even tried it:

  1. I don’t want to get used to it
  2. I LOVE starting almost every sentence with “since you have the cordless guitar on can you please get me…..”
  3. I obviously have issues with ‘excessive’ use as I broke the whammy bar on our original red guitar
  4. I won MAJOR points taking over Adam’s old black and brown guitar
  5. Cordless or not I will still find something to trip and fall over
  • The latest visit with Rhonda was awesome, as usual, but was also bittersweet. Not my place to talk about her life on my site. I haven’t even posted the photos to flickr yet but when I do I’ll do a photo post because we took some pretty interesting photos. Underwear on my head was involved and Adam got a stingray.
  • I have therapy today and BOY do I need it.
  • I haven’t touched The Time Traveler’s Wife since GH 3 came out and I remain on page 50.
  • I bought the new Britney Spears, Blackout at the same time that I bought Puscifer, “V” is for vagina.
  • I’m almost done the second quarter of 100 things about me.
  • Adam and I got new cell phones for free. My phone is so kick ass I can’t even use it or I can but I may have to call in reinforcements to teach me, I got the MOTOKRZR K1(RED) made to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. I have this thing where I hate reading instructions, but I take direction well.
  • I got a change sorter because we save every single piece of change and I love it so much I may dedicate a whole post to it. If you only knew how much money I/we have saved and the things we’ve ended up using it for you’d all start saving your change today.
  • This season of Ellen Degeneres is so good I can hardly handle it.
  • Project GOING GREEN is in full swing we’ve added reusable bags for groceries and drugstore shops and have found even more things to ‘flick off’ and unplug. Friend and fellow blogger Keira-Anne has also done some great posts on GOING GREEEEEEEEEN and even has a Roots, Flick Off t-shirt.
  • Project get all the songs open on Guitar Hero III by tomorrow must recommence now.
  • As of this minute I have 144 unread blog posts on my feed from blogs I actually read because I only have blogs I read on my feed because of you guessed it, GUITAR HERO. [anyone sick of hearing about GH refer to my about page]

The life of a girl gamer & a BFF comes for another visit

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

When I was a kid and we lived in Smithers we only had two TV channels and so somehow I talked my parents into getting me a Nintendo. Until I moved out to Vancouver at nineteen I hadn’t upgraded, I only ever owned Mario one and three and I had Duck Hunt. Duck Hunt ruled that gun was so kickass. My girlfriend, Rhonda, who lived in Kitimat at the time had upgraded her Nintendo so I would play hers. It is rather surprising how much we got to see each other when I was still in Smithers, it is considerably further from Terrace where we ended up moving. Terrace and Kitimat are around 65km apart so once I was sixteen and had my license, until Rhonda graduated and moved away for college we saw one another almost every weekend or the memories are so good it feels that way.

If memory serves I bought a Playstation when I was twenty-one. I always LOVED Oddworld and had both games. Then in 2002 [at twenty-five] with my Christmas bonus I bought a PS2. I really had no choice. At the time I was friends with a group of four plus guys hanging out in a ‘guy’ apartment doing nothing but drinking, smoking pot and kicking the shit out of each other on Virtua Fighter [for example] and I was the only girl gamer so it was hold your own or get the fuck out and I of course held my own and decided it was high time I upgraded my own gaming hardware. It was a good investment anyway because this also gave me a DVD player.

*free tip for the single ladies*

Even if you hate gaming buy a PS2 they are ridiculously cheap now because the PS3 and new Xbox whatever is out and it will get you a man. Guys would go mental when they would see I had a playstation before I met Adam but also including Adam. I used to constantly joke that I had to hide the thing, it was almost as bad as guys trying to get in my pants. Guys like girls who have gaming systems. Accept it.

And so one day I’m talking to my buddy on IM and he is dating this rad girl and he says, he says AND SHE EVEN HAS AN XBOX. HA! I responded with: That is PROOF guys would have TOTALLY said that about me. I know they did I didn’t really need the proof but it is more cool that through meeting my buddies girlfriend I have now gained a new gaming girlfriend as well which brings me up to THREE girlfriends that game. Rhonda, Iris Eggwhites and Spockette.

Guitar Hero Three - Legends of Rock did NOT come out last Sunday as scheduled and has been pushed back to THIS Sunday. Ok, I seriously thought Adam was going to cry when it didn’t come out last weekend. If it is not in our hands THIS SUNDAY I can see some major flipping out happening. BUT wait didn’t you say THIS was Guitar Hero Three? When my friends ask me that I explain it in these terms: You know how after Sarah McLachlan released Fumbling Towards Ecstasy she started to release albums like Rarities, B-Sides & Other Shit Stuff in between pretty much every full length album release, almost like she is insecure and afraid her listeners won’t be there after her breaks which pisses me off because I will always love her and still bought all those in between albums, that is what Guitar Hero is doing. The Encore 80’s game is SHIT. If I was not ADDICTED to the point of needing an intervention to GH 1 and 2 because I am so close to finishing Expert level on both games we’d have gone back to Tiger Woods PGA 2007 till GH 3 came out.

So, with all that said, Rhonda gets here in a few hours, she normally brings games for the PS2, [she owns more than one gaming system] we’ll be going to Walmart as I have been letting EVERYTHING run out because Rhonda is a Walmart addict and I don’t know we just go to Walmart and we make crafts - must be the years and years in Scouts or some shit but we ALWAYS do crafts. Anyone new here can check out other visits with Rhonda here, here and here and this post has us as teens so we look SUPER hot.

Read your heart out.

I finished A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini last Friday and then I read Douglas Coupland’s, Eleanor Rigby and now I have started The Time Traveler’s Wife, Audrey Niffenegger but when I really think about it this is not a lot of reading I have only completed eleven books so far this year and I blame this low number on Guitar Hero which will get its own post for all you gamers out there, I think what five maybe ten gamers read my blog and you don’t even all comment, correct me if I am wrong, but that is ok because I KNOW you wanna know how good I am at Guitar Hero I KNOW. But this post is about books.

200px-a_thousand_splendid_suns.gifI had been looking forward to reading A Thousand Splendid Suns being that Khaled Hosseini’s first book The Kite Runner was a superb read. I literally flew through it and I have never been a particularly fast reader. A Thousand Splendid Suns took me longer to read for various reasons but was so good I relayed almost the entire book to Adam as I went. I love that The Kite Runner set in Afghanistan and America is centered around men mainly father and son relationships but then A Thousand Splendid Suns is the complete opposite and concentrates on the woman of Afghanistan. The book made me cry, which almost never happens, I can’t even remember the last book that did so. Even though you get a happy ending when you read Hosseini’s books it doesn’t come without some pretty extreme sacrifices, and I get seriously tired of fictional happy endings. A Thousand Splendid Suns takes you right from the Soviet invasion in 1979 straight up to a few years shy of present day. Reading fictional books set in war torn countries are sometimes not very far off the actual, from what I gather, to be the realities that the persons in these novels face. I think because I read both non fiction and fiction war novels I can safely say it is much easier to separate from the horrors of the fictional novels than it is from the non fiction, although the violence, the lost innocence, the torture, the deaths and the setting are all but the same. I love the way this man weaves his heart-wrenching tales with characters who stay with you long after their stories have been told.

180px-elanorrigbybook.jpgEleanor Rigby was better than I thought it would be but not one of Coupland’s strongest efforts by a long shot. I found that I was able to bond with the main character over her struggles with loneliness but not on the same level just the word, loneliness. She is essentially a middle aged single woman who thinks that she leads and has lead an extraordinarily boring life and her family would agree until one day something astonishing happens and you guessed it she discovers she and her life are not so boring after all. The book contains many good one liners that had me laughing out loud and I regret not marking the pages. This is one of Coupland’s many books set in Vancouver, he is not the only local author whose books I have read but he is in my opinion likely the best in making me feel like I am really in Vancouver. Although in the book Stanley Park, Timothy Taylor gives an absolutely uncanny depiction of Vancouver’s West End [where I live] and of the our Province’s largely known Stanley Park.

The Time Traveler’s Wife was supposed to be a family book club pick but that meeting got canceled although we are having a meeting at Christmas! Adam started reading it and couldn’t stop laughing and because the first rule of family book club is NO TALKING ABOUT THE BOOK UNTIL THE MEETING I viewed this laugher as obvious and vulgar RULE BREAKAGE. When the meeting was canceled Adam practically rejoiced and the book has been collecting dust on the shelf ever since. The thing is, the bloody book is EVERY WHERE right now I have had A LOT of people telling me to read it and *basically* everyone I know who has read it EXCEPT for Adam has loved it. So out of pure curiosity I am reading it now. I would have read it eventually but I am reading it much sooner than expected but I need to know what all this bloody fuss is about and if it sucks I can’t wait to smash the crap out of it via review.

Sick as a dog and stuff

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

I am not feeling well, in fact I am feeling ill, I have chills and a really bad even worse than *normal* headache, sore ears a mild fever, a plugged nose and sore throat with sexy voice and cough. To be ’sick as a dog’ you do actually have to be barfing but because the meaning of the term is so sparse on the internet I really don’t care and I’m using it anyway because I’m a baby and I don’t have to be barfing to feel like ass or use the term. I’ll use it if I want to. I’M SICK AS A DOG! I have been since Monday evening, THAT is when it started a small twinge of throat pain entered around 11:30pm after spending some time with friends. As far as I know everyone else is fine. I had a few days of insomnia so maybe I was a target for germs or something because my immune system was weak. I’ll never know. The thing that really bugs me about being sick so early in the year is that normally leads to a season of getting ‘everything’. Last ’season’ I think Adam got really sick once and me twice. And getting a cold is just SO not what it used to be, you’d get sick for a day or two maybe three and then you were fine, good to go, but now everything lasts for bloody EVER, and the flu, or the flu combined with a cold don’t even get me started.

I also hate being sick because all of my co-ordination is thrown off and I can’t play play station, which means NO GUITAR HERO! as if I even had to remind you what it means. I can’t read either, I keep having to read the same sentence over and over and over, so there is little point. I also write really shitty, if you could only see how many words were missing, but you can’t because I’ve read it back over and made it readable.

Unless the Vancouver Civic Strike ends and we could actually go golfing and I’m still sick I won’t start freaking out. I had other things I was going to mention but my head has turned to glue this post is so much more effort than I thought it would be. I’ll be back soon. Or maybe Adam will post if you ask him nice.

adam's finger

Aughra mentioned that she had not seen my bangs and it dawned on me that if you aren’t on my Facebook then you wouldn’t know that I got bangs because I never mentioned it or posted any photos on Flickr till late last week early this week. So, in case you didn’t know, I got bangs.

Stay tuned for a review/comparison post between Rob Zombie’s Halloween and the original John Carpenter version by Adam, we watched both over the long weekend. I will tell you this, we both [and JohnA] HATED the new one it was SO BAD I would have walked out had I not have been with other people. DUMBEST SHIT EVER. Rob Zombie is a MORON for thinking he could take on that movie, I mean really, I wasn’t expecting much it is a remake, but I did not expect him to actually destroy the movie. I want my money and my wasted time back.

STUPID memory card deleted my data on Guitar Hero Encore Rocks the 80’s, I had to start over again I was not impressed. It took me forever to finish the last song by Extreme I don’t even want to see that song on EXPERT. I can’t remember what my original band name was but it wasn’t Bastard Fucker that name came from the anger of losing memory card data for the second time. [two different games though] Might be time for a new one.

*DROOL* my new bag *DROOL*

I am so in love with this bag. I have been looking for a new bag for over a year maybe two years. I have been carrying a green Gap bag or my Johnny Cash book bag and my wee Coach bag for special occasions but my green Gap bag has been falling apart for a while. I had basically stopped looking for a replacement which is obviously why I found one. It is water proof and the best bag in the world, room for all my stuff and a book, has the key holder, phone holder, camera holder AND does not feel heavy EVEN with my water bottle in it. Heaven.

Looks like we made it..

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

HOLY I can’t believe it is Tuesday already, where does the time go? I have been pretty giddy since last Friday somehow I got the one line from Barry Manilow’s song Looks Like We Made It stuck in my head and that line would be the ”looks like we made it” part, the rest of the song doesn’t really work lyric wise, but that line mixed in with some humming and stabs at other lines without looking up the lyrics have been ever present to the point I dedicated that song to Adam on Sunday on Facebook for everyone to see because I know Adam hates Manilow and is probably about ready to duct tape my vocal chords. I found a video for the song on YouTube and it had all the karaoke lyrics running across it as well so I serenaded him whilst playing the air guitar. You want romance? I think that about covers it.

i love this photo

The only shitty thing about the whole weekend was that on Friday at around 3pm-ish I started to feel really nauseous and had to go lay down and I only had two hours until my shrink session and just felt ILL so I canceled, I will likely have to pay a cool $170.00 for that but I had no idea what was happening, and then I started to get the stabbing pains in behind my eyes and my head started to pound and I really couldn’t move and I was like DUH how could you NOT have realized that was a migraine coming on, I waited until it had subsided enough that I could maneuver myself off of the couch and into the kitchen to get something for it. Much to my relief it was under control pretty quickly but it was too late for my session. I called Dr. B back and explained what happened he knows about my headaches but still canceling two hours before? I think he will charge me for the missed session, granted he never said anything about it and normally he does so I guess I will find out if and when he hands me an invoice this Friday.

as you can see D is using my guitarSo basically we hung out with David and Iris Eggwhites and we had some Guitar Hero battles and we went bowling on Saturday night and spent Sunday how we spend most days, laughing and enjoying each others company. Just now we are in year two of marriage and almost heading into year five together. It sure does not feel like we’ve been together that long but we have. And I didn’t bust out any wedding photos because they are all on flickr and our favourite one is on Facebook we see them all the time if you want to see them you know where they are I’m just bored with them right now.

Too Hotps. This is my most favourite Guitar Hero shot ever. And it is only fitting that I was playing the 80s Encore edition when this was taken. What am I doing wearing that headband for real? Well, I’m retraining my hair growth pattern of course. It is sweet I don’t leave the house in it but I do wear it into bed because I am sexy to the max.
