I think Earth Hour was a stroke of marketing genius. The awareness spread around the world was a most powerful influence in starting to shift cultural mindsets. I Hve to say, though, in terms of environmental impact, it would have been much better if people didn't light all those candles! They create emissions to the air and they are bad for indoor air quality. Any benefit of turning off a few CFLs for an hour was negated by so many people lighting a ton of candles!
